In Scouting, the eagle stands for strength of character and for knowledge of all phases of the Scouting program. The eagle represents an understanding of community and nation, and deep respect for the same. The eagle is a symbol of what a Scout has done as well as what that Scout will do, and will be when they grow into adulthood. The eagle is a leader and is respected, both by his peers and by his adult leaders.
To achieve the rank of Eagle, requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges. The Scout must also demonstrate Scout Spirit and an ideal character based upon the Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages.
The Eagle Scout rank is the highest rank available to youth members of Scouts BSA.
